Projekty, které fungují na našich fakultách:
Teddy bear hospital
First aid lectures at elementary schools
Smokefree parties:all around the world

Teddy bear hospital

It is a project of medical students which aim is to help children to get rid of fear of white coats. Everything is performed as a game which is a natural form of learning for children. however it is not only them who really ejoy it.
Children bring their favorite toy (teddy bear) for which they make up a disease. That is how they get into the role of parents and they can watch what examinations are done on their ?child?. With this they also accept certain responsibility which helps them realize the importance and necesity of the visit in hospital or at the doctors'. It also makes them realize that doctors are here to help, not to hurt.

Project is meant for children attending kindergarten. Ideally there is five children for 1 teddy bear doctor.
The only thing we need from children is to bring their favorite stuffed animal which plays the role of the patient. Children -now as parents-then have to také care of it. At the beginning we make contact with children. We talk about diseases they have had, about their experience with doctors and on their toys we show them the basic physical examintaion they can come across at the doctors'.
Then every ?teddy bear:? doctor prepares his/her own office where children go to visit him and have their toys checked, he gives them a receipt and can send them to other examinations. In every hospital there is a surgery room where the most severe cases are treated. This part is usually the most exciting for children.
"very often we are afraid of things we do not understand. So let's help children not be afraid"

.First aid lectures at elementary schools
Lessons of first aid trainings at elementary schools is a project lead by medical students under IFMSA CZ which takes places in other countries all around the world.
The project is meant for students of 8th and 9th grades of elementary schools( aged 12-15). the aim is to tech them the basics of lifesavings techniques such as cardiopulmonary resuscitaion (CPR), but also treatment of frequent wounds or life threatening dispositions and to give them a guide how to behave in difficult and unpredictable situations in life. The aspiration is to lead youg people to responsibility to their surroundings becuase first aid performed in the right way and in the shortest time can help to save life or decide about its future quality.
Lessons are organized and lead by medical students from Universitites in Prague, Brno and Olomouc who have passed the First aid course or rescue workers course and who undergo compulsory extra lessons at the Anesthesiological department with one of their doctors who hold patronage over the project.
As for the lesson itself.
Students visit schools which showed interest in this project and where they have arranged the lessons. Course is lead by at least 2 students who fulfill the above mentioned requirements. The lesson is devided into theoretical introduction and practical part.
In the theoretical part we go over the information on CPR, treatment of people with lesion of consciousness, treatment of bigger or smaller bleeding injuries etc. In the practical part the students get the opportunity to try their gained knowledge and carry it out themselves. The whole lessons takes about 1.5-2hours depending on the interes of the students.

In case of interest there is also the possibility to do the same for teachers or other employees.

Smokefree parties:all around the world

Project "smokefreeparties:all around the world" is made by students of medicine under IFMSA CZ organisation (International Federation of Medical Students Association) and it is running in countries around the world simultaneously-eg. In Austria, Turkey or Chile. IT is a part of "Tobacco Initiative Project".
Project is meant for broad public targeting the age group of 15-26 which is the most frequent time when someone starts to smoke. The aim of the project is not to fight smoking as such but more to fight pasive smoking. We all meet pasive smoking every day and it does not matter whether it is at home where the parents live or at a party where our friends smoke. So called Second-hand smoke contains more than 4000 chemical substances from which at least 50 are potential carcinogens and have significantly higher amount of carbon oxide than the smoke which the smoking person breaths. It is because it is made at lower temperature if it is not breathed in. The smoke from a cigarette is released for about 12 minutes, however the smoker only breathes it in less than a minute. And lower level of nicotine does not mean less danger, cigarette contains the same amount of chemicals. Every year in the European Union 80 000 die because of pasive smoking. And that is a number which deserves our attention.

To the project itself. It is necessary to book a club where the party will také place, to book some known bands or famous people who will attract people. The ideal day to hold the party is 31st of May when the International day without tobacco? takes place. During the party there is an absolute prohibiton of smoking. But for the smokers to enjoy it as well, there is accompanying programme-they can symbolically break their cigarette and get a reward for that-like a sweet thing or something else.

"An alcoholic does not force us to drink alcohol, a drug addict does not force us to také heroin but a smoker forces us to smoke, even more- we breathe in the poisons he breathes out from his mouth"
