Fakultní nemocnice Královské Vinohrady
Šrobárova 50, 100 34, Praha 10
Most of the incoming students are placed in Faculty Hospital Kralovské Vinohrady. Your clerkship starts on the 1st day of the month. Each day usually starts between 7:30 and 8:30 in the morning (depending on the department) and ends at earliest at 12, or later. You should spend at least 4 hours a day at the hospital - every working day except for weekends. To obtain your certificate your attendance has to be at least 75% of working days in a month.
It is absolutely necessary to bring your white coat, stethoscope and hospital shoes. White shoes are preferred, but it is not a condition. You are supposed to have clean indoor shoes like Birkenstocs, sandals, Crocks, etc. For some departments (gynecology, obstetrics, surgery, orthopedics, etc.) entirely white clothes is required.
On the first day of your clerkship your contact person will take you to the hospital, show you the cloakroom, and introduce you to your tutors at the department. Even for the first day take a white coat, indoor shoes and other necessary things with you. During the first week you will receive an identification card which you are obligated to wear in the hospital.
The hospital was founded in 1902 and it was named after the emperor František Josef I. After the First World War the hospital became the only state hospital in the Czechoslovakia and has undergone an extensive building boom. In 1952 it became a faculty hospital, contributing to the educational base of the later established Faculty of Hygiene.
Clinics and departments at the hospital take responsibility for providing highly specialized aid and treatment. For example the Department of Burns or the Department of Plastic Surgery are top-level workplaces of an international importance.
