Kralovské Vinohrady Hospital was founded in 1902 and it was named after the emperor František Josef I. After the 1st World War the hospital became the only state hospital in the Czechoslovakia and has undergone an extensive building boom. In 1952 it became a faculty hospital, contributing to the educational base of the lately established Faculty of Hygiene.
Clinics and departments at the hospital take responsibility for providing highly specialized aid and treatment. Mainly the Department of Burns, the Department of Plastic Surgery and the Ophthalmology Clinic are top-level workplaces with an international importance. University Hospital Kralovské Vinohrady provides basal, specialized and highly specialized patient-care. The hospital treats more than 630 000 patients per a year.

General information about your clerkship

Most of the incoming students are having their course in University Hospital Kralovské Vinohrady. Your clerkship starts on the 1st day of the month. Usually each day starts between 7:30 and 8:30 in the morning (it depends on the department) and ends at least at 12:00 or later. You shout spend in the hospital at least 4 hours a day, every day in week except weekends. For receiving the certificate the minimum is 80% of work days in the month.

It is absolutely necessary to bring your white coat, stethoscope and hospital shoes. White colour is preferred. You are supposed to have clean indoor shoes like Birkenstocks, sandals, Crocks etc. For some departments (gynecology, obstetrics, surgery, orthopedics etc.) all white clothes are required. It is good to bring your own lock.

On the first day of your clerkship your contact persons will take you to the hospital, show you the cloakroom, and introduce you to your tutors at the department. Even for the first day take a white coat, indoor shoes and other necessary things with you. During the first week you receive an identification card which you should wear in the hospital.
