Accommodation for incoming students is provided at Dormitory (in czech Kolej) Hostivař. The main advantage of this dormitory is its location, only about 20 minutes from the University Hospital Kralovske Vinohrady (by tram 22) and about 30 minutes from the centre.

No matter how what time you arrive, you will still be able to check in. The dormitory is opened non-stop. For check in you need your passport.

At the dormitory students are accommodated in double-bed rooms with sanitary facilities in the room (WC + bathroom). Single rooms are not available. Rooms are equipped with two beds, tables, wardrobes and shelves. You don´t have to bring your own bedding and bed linen, you will receive them at the reception upon check in. Bed-clothes are changed by residents themselves. Towels are not provided. Small kitchen with two common refrigerators is common for each floor and it is not equipped with dishes. If you are planning to use the kitchen it is necessary to bring your own dishes, you can also bring a tea-kettle, a pot etc.

A laundry room is available at the student dormitory (about 20 CZK/hour) and you need to bring your own detergent. Flat-irons are available with no charge. You can get the keys from the laundry room at the reception for some deposit (about 50 CZK) and you need to show your dormitory card (the one you received with the set of keys upon checking in). A drying machine is not available at the dormitory, but you can use the hanging room in the building.

INTERNET CONNECTION - possibilities

The dormitory consists of 5 buildings. Some of these building have ADSL connectors in each room. We are trying to place our incomings students on room with ADSL connectors, but sometimes it is not possible. You should ask your contact person in advance. If you have a room with ADSL connector you can bring your own notebook and you can use internet on your room for fee (about 100 CZK for a month).

In the main building of the dormitory (near the reception) there is a computer room with internet access for a little fee. This computer room may be closed during the summer months.

At the 3. Faculty of Medicine (just beside the hospital) there is a computer room nr. 222 on the second floor. You can receive a login and password to access to the computers from your contact person. It is free.

In Prague there are many internet cafes (about 60 CZK = 2,5 Euro per hour) the nearest in Shopping Centre Hostivař - Coffee Net, more examples: near I.P.Pavlova: Jugoslavska street, near Namesti Miru: Americka street, near Namesti Miru (one station with tram 10,16 Sumavska): Slezska street and in all large shopping centers e.g. at Flora shopping centre.

BOARDING

We provide money for food instead of boarding. Because of quite expensive accomodation in the capital city, it won't be much: little less than 2000 CZK for month (it is about 75 EUR). The amount of money depends, of course, how long will you stay.

In the area of the dormitory there is a students canteen (menza). You can have your meal at the canteen, but during summer months the canteen is closed.
Canteen in the University Hospital Karlovske Vinohrady provides breakfast, dinner and supper. It is opened during the whole year. Cost of the lunch is approx. 80 CZK.

You can have a dinner for 70 - 90 CZK, if you go somewhere more trendy you will pay around 130 CZK (5 EUR) for a pizza or more than 130 CZK (5 EUR) for something else. Of course you can find a restaurant where you will pay 500 CZK for a meal if you prefer. Expect restaurants in the centre of Prague and nearby famous sights to be expensive. Your contact persons will give you some pieces of advise where is worth to go, where are cheaper prices, what to try and so on.

The nearest supermarket: about 2 mitutes walking from the dormitory or go by bus to station "Gercenova".
The nearest shopping centre: go by tram to station "Na Groši" (about 5 min from the dormitory) At the shopping centre you can find resturants, fast foods, large supermarket, internet cafe, fitness, shops and cinemas. Website: www.parkhostivar.cz/cz/index.php

We will try to pick up everybody, but you have to inform us about exact time of your arrival. If there is some serious problem with picking you up, here is a guide how to get to the dormitory on your own:

The fastest way is to take a taxi. In order to avoid fraudulent conduct of local taxi drivers, we advise you to book the car by calling on some taxi assistance. Taxi arrives within 5 minutes and it is always cheaper than stopping the car on the street. A way from the airport to the dormitory costs approx. 600 CZK.

The other possibility is to use the means of public transport. Do not forget to buy a transfer ticket for 26 CZK. It is possible to buy the ticket in the ticket vendor (at almost every metro and bus station), at the information centers or at the tobacconist?s. The ticket is valid only if marked in the validation appliance.
