THE CITY OF HRADEC KRALOVE
Location: Hradec Kralove lies about 100 km east from Prague between two legendary rivers- Labe (the Elbe) and Orlice (the Eagle). The first signs of the settling date from the 3rd century B. C. Nowadays, the town has about 100.000 inhabitants and it is an administrative center of East Bohemia.
Around Hradec Kralove (within reach of 30 to 50 km) there are a lot of other historical monuments, especially many beautiful castles, and the famous Krkonose- Giant Mountains (with the Natural Reservation) are approx. 80 km far from the town.
Cultural Life and Education: Hradec Kralove is a town of extraordinarily colorful highlights. There are several cultural institutions, e.g. the Klicpera Theatre, Philharmonic Orchestra, and lots of other artistic bodies a number of music festivals take place here.
It is also a home of five university faculties: the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Pharmacy of Charles University, the Military Medical Academy and the University of Hradec Kralove with Faculty of Education, Faculty of Informatics and Management).
Sports and Recreation: Hradec Kralove is also an important center of sport. There are sports areas with modern facilities in town e. g. the sports stadiums, the winter stadium with two ice rinks, sports fields, modern tennis courts LTC, etc.
Hradec Kralove has always been known for its care of parks, orchards and gardens. There are also woods, forest parks, ponds, even a state nature reservation, all these providing the means for recreation and rest.
Charles University, Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Kralove (founded in 1348): At present, Charles University consists of 17 faculties of which five are faculties of medicine. Three of them (1st Faculty of Medicine, 2nd Faculty of Medicine and 3rd Faculty of Medicine) are located in Prague, one is in Hradec Kralove and one is in Pilsen (Plzen).

University Hospital in Hradec Kralove: The University hospital is one of the largest and most modern health care institutions in the Czech Republic. It is a complex of 37 clinics and departments, with 1.550 beds and with a staff of 3.500, of which 450 are physicians, situated in 3 different locations in Hradec Kralove. More than 40.000 inpatients and 600.000 outpatients are treated here yearly.
